2 shaft or 4 shaft which shredder is better
Which shredder is better for you the 2 shaft or the 4 shaft, here are some advantages and disadvantages for you to make a decision
Now more than ever there is a wide choice of shredding technologies available to choose from, the single shaft, or the 2 shaft or the 4 shaft shredder, all are very good shredder machines.. if selected according to the reason for shredding , then of course come the machine capacity , these two factors determine the right selection of the shredding machine for your application. Enumerated here are the 2 shaft and the 4 shaft shredder differences.
2 Shaft Shredder –
Dual Shredders have two counter-rotating shafts with intertwined individual cutters mounted on each of them which rotate in opposite directions. This type of shredder is often used for VOLUME REDUCTION or PROCESSING OF RAW MATERIALS of bulky and light items like wooden pallets, drums, MSW, BMW, Organic waste RDF etc.
Genarally it is advised to use the 2 shaft shredder as it gives high throughput at the same electric rating, for instance a 200HP dual shaft shredder could give you 10TPH compared to a 200HP 4 shaft shredder will give you almost half.
Where ever possible if the further processing machines can be designed to take bigger irregular pieces, it is best to use a double shaft shredder.
However if regular sizing is required then it is best to either consider an inline secondary shredder (for high throughput) or then take a 4 shaft shredder.
In instances where sizing is very important then it is best to consider a high speed single shaft shredder.
Advantages of a 2 Shaft shredder :
- Reduces volume by over 80%
- Can process the materials in just one rotation giving higher throughput
- Large-diameter cutters give faster cutting and have a longer life.
- High throughput
- Simple Construction
- Low operating and maintenance costs
Disadvantages of a 2 Shaft shredder :
- Widely varying output sizes (Pieces as well as strips)
- Cannot produce a consistent particle size
- Mostly used as a primary shredder
4 Shaft Shredders –
Quad shredders have 4 shafts which can be rotated in opposite directions to give more flexibility in shredding numerous objects and to bring them up again for a second pass to ensure correct sizing. They will granulate the materials into small particles for correct disposal or for a further manufacturing process. It uses a sizing mesh for particle size control.
Advantages of a 4 shaft shredder :
- Consistent particle sizing
- Almost 90% volume reduction
- Can destroy any type of bulky material
- Secondary Shafts assist in shredding as well as sizing
- Sizing ranges from 25-70mm
Disadvantages of a 4 shaft shredder :
- Heavy and complex construction
- Higher cost as compared to the dual-shaft shredder
- Low throughput , takes more time to churn out the materials
- More maintenance required
- Higher power requirement as throughput is less
Both machines – the 2 shaft and the 4 shaft shredder are fantastic performers, you may select according to your requirement, if any assistance required, please do not hesitate to contact us for advice – +919820020754
